My official review: Meh. Had the Double-Double. Had to take the onions off because they were too strong. Special sauce wasn't very special. Fries were quite underwhelming. I might try it again, but for now, I'm eating at Mighty Fine or 5 Guys. Still need to try Hut's and P. Terry's.

I used to work at five guys. Great food and the people were a ton of fun, but god that place was hell.

I wish there were In-N-Out on the East Coast... I do have Shake Shack though.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK.

jk, it's just a burger. But I am an In N Out zealot. Next time you order, as for your Double Double "animal style", which adds extra cheese and chopped, sauteed onions.

Better. Than. FIVE GUYS?!

I thought the same. After all the hype I had been hearing about the burgers it was almost a letdown. Mighty Fine and 5 Guys are a bit better but still don't live up to their hype. There is this one chain Smash Burger I do like, but I guess I'm just not a big fan of burgers.

I feel for you man, I don't think I've been to a single Five Guys where the workers weren't being worked like orphans from a Charles Dickens novel. Place always seems packed as I drive by delivering pizzas, in a reclined position, in my air-conditioned car while listening to my favorite music :)

Agreed. 5 guys is on a whole next level. In n out has to be compared to the likes of McDonald's/burger king/etc....damn five guys sounds so good right now

5 Guys gets quite expensive in comparison to In n Out.
Both are better than the "big" chains, but I'm sure the local bar/pub has better burgers...

Mrs. Shoe Pilot and I went to P. Terrys on monday. I failed to see what all the fuss was about. The burger was nothing special. The fries were decent, but you better wolf them because they're fresh cut and as they cool they get limp and floppy.

Have you tried Dan's? That's a good burger.

I don't see why people like them, I can think of much better places to get a burger. They don't taste like anything to me.

Agreed. I said to my wife, "There's nothing about this that makes me say, 'Wow! We need to come back here!'" Really, the best part of the burger was the bread. I was charitable when I spoke of the fries. I should have said they were terrible.

I have been to both Fran's and Dan's before my oldest was born, so that would be at least 12 years ago. I liked it very much. That's on my list of places to go back to, as I search Austin for good burgers (not counting hoity-toity restaurants(. I rather like the burger at EZ's on Lamar. They just built a P. Terry's near my house in Wells Branch, so I'll give it a try, though you are the second person in as many days to tell me that it wasn't that great. I've also heard good things about Top Notch. Honestly, I like Whataburger pretty well.

Yeah, not much of a Five Guys fan either. The one I tried was more a giant glop of meat than a burger — I guess their fans are hardcore carnivores or something.

My wife is really picky about fries, she is not impressed either. When we are in San Francisco we go to Roam on Filmore. When we lived in Hawaii we liked Teddy's Bigger Burger in Hawaii Kai. In any case I was seriously underwhelmed after all the talk.

As a transplant to the Southwest I'd sum up the "burger battle" as follows. If I want a quick and cheap burger, that I still think tastes delicious, I'll stop for In-N-Out. A double meat, fries, and drink is just over five bucks. I really think the double is the sweet spot for bun to meat ratio at that establishment.

If I'm looking for something a little better, and am willing to spend a few more dollars, I'll go to Five Guys. I personally prefer their burgers, though if I grade the two on a cost to deliciousness quotient, the nod goes to In-N-Out. When it comes to fries though, Five Guys wins hands down. They are my favorite fries that are available at a quick joint in my area. I still prefer Penn Station fries, but alas there are none in the Valley of Sun.

So if I'm feeling cheap, am in a hurry, really want a shake, or have friends in town from the East Coast then I go In-N-Out. The rest of the time I skew Five Guys.

Not even a tasty glop of meat. Also, blandest bun ever. Can't stand Five Guys—it's just not good.

I'd prefer more pinkness in my burger, but there are these things called spices and seasonings that they really need to add if they insist on well-done meat.

THANK YOU! Sometimes I feel like the only person who doesn't get P. Terry's. Bland bland blah.

The best part about P. Terry's are the buildings, the cookies and the milkshakes. If they were a retro-googie milkshake and cookie stand, I could live with this. The burgers are just meh.

We just had this conversation like a week ago. But, you should get the double double animal style. It's better that way. Might as well try animal fries as well. Or whatever. I think it's pretty good.

I'll agree to that. Their fries are iffy and their overpriced. They're still better than 99% of burger outlets, though at a price.

They're like the BMW 3 series of the burger world.

Don't forget to put Wild Bubba's on your list. On the regular menu, yak is tasty. They've had the brisket burger on the special menu for a while, and that's really good too. Hopefully it sticks around.

Wild Bubba's is about a mile from the main entrance to Circuit of The Americas. It looks like a total hole in the wall from the outside. The inside is covered in race fan stuff. It's a cool place.

When I took my wife there for the first time, on first sight her reaction was "oh HELL no" but when the food came out, she said it looked ok, then she took a bite and it was delicious. They pass their health inspections with flying colors too.

Ask for cajun seasoning on the patty itself and to grill many items such as the bun ..onions,peppers,etc Makes it a lot better
